Professor Amelia Barber

Research Center Borstel, Germany

Prof. Amelia E. Barber is a group leader at Research Center Borstel-Leibniz Lung Center and professor at Kiel University. Her research focuses on human fungal pathogens and utilizes both experimental and computational approaches to unravel mechanisms of fungal virulence and drug resistance. She is particularly interested in fungal pathogens that live in the environment, including One Health aspects of antifungal resistance, how ecological interactions shape virulence in fungal pathogens, and how fungal pathogens adapt during chronic infection. In 2025 she was awarded the main research prize of the German-speaking Mycological Society and selected as a CIFAR Azrieli Global Scholar.
