Dr. Marina Rocha is a Senior Lecturer in the Shraga Segal Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. Her research focuses on fungal pathogenesis, host–pathogen interactions, and the cellular states that determine fungal adaptation, virulence, and antifungal treatment response. Her laboratory investigates how opportunistic fungal pathogens, particularly Fusarium and Aspergillus, adapt to host environments and how these adaptations influence immune recognition and antifungal efficacy. Her research combines molecular microbiology, fungal genetics, infection models, advanced imaging, and metabolomic approaches to dissect mechanisms of fungal persistence and treatment failure. A major goal of her research program is to identify dynamic fungal states that emerge during infection and determine whether these states can be targeted to improve antifungal therapy.
